Christmas Concertos have always been popular, either enhancing the seasonal festivities or as musical works in their own right. Such pieces were common in the Baroque era, one being by the Italian composer Giuseppe Torelli(1658-1709). His <i>Christmas Concerto</i> is in the character og a siciliana, a shepherds' dance in 12/8 time also know as 'Pastoral'.
